I’m a 30-something wedding celebrant residing on Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula
Okay, I don’t actually live on the Mornington Peninsula, technically I live in the City of Frankston which I guess you could call the ‘Gateway to Morn Pen’ so close enough? ‘No’ I hear you saying, how about I claim Bayside? Still No? Okay okay – I live in Carrum Downs but I tell you what, she’s not a bad spot – close to both aforementioned destinations, not too far from the CBD, the Dandenong Ranges or the Yarra Valley and pretty much on the road into Phillip Island – win win!
I’m not going to lie to you, I’m a bit of a dork..
I’m a little socially awkward (don’t worry, it’s only when I have to talk about myself – I can talk the limb off a tree when talking about my couples), I’m passionate, fiercely loyal, loud, occasionally inappropriate, fun, bubbly and impossible not to love (according to my folks anyway). I like to think of myself like Cameron Diaz’s character in There’s Something About Mary… maybe without the model-like appearance and legs up to my armpits. More than anything else I pride myself on being kind and supportive.
I didn’t get into this game to churn through weddings like Australia churns through Prime Ministers – I do this because I love it – I’m invested in my couples and being able to share their day of days with them makes my heart just so darn full!
“There are endless ways in which you can marry your beloved, the only thing that is an absolute MUST is a few short words in front of a couple of witnesses, literally everything else is UP TO YOU”
So why did I become a wedding celebrant?
Well.. I decided to become a celebrant because I just bloody love weddings! If my husband wasn’t such a keeper I’d totally be rushing out to do it again. I’m hanging out until we’ve been married long enough that it’s socially acceptable to do a vow renewal and don’t you just know I’ll be going all out then.
When I got married in 2015 I found there wasn’t a whole heap of info about what is and isn’t required at a wedding.
Pretty much all my wedding experience was based around what I had seen on the silver screen so yes I thought all the traditional elements were non-negotiable.. aisles, bridesmaids, til death do us part… and all these things are totally wicked if that’s how you roll but it wasn’t until after our knot was firmly tied that I realised that there is another way.
In fact, there are endless ways in which you can marry your beloved, the only thing that is an absolute MUST is a few short words in front of a couple of witnesses, literally everything else is UP TO YOU.
I’m pretty passionate about this – I am hellbent on educating couples and helping them create THEIR dream day, not the dream they grew up watching on ye old idiot box. The possibilities are endless so why not explore them and create the type of wedding day magic your guests will be talking about for years and years to come?
